"Globalization Through a Feminist Geography Perspective"
Produced in 2018, this video by Yasmine Soubra discusses the role gender plays in people's experiences and perceptions of urban spaces with findings presented from the feminist geography collective's data gathered in Kampala, Uganda. The video interacts with participatory self-mapping data to map the emotions of "Uptown" and "Downtown" Kampala. Additionally, Soubra's film centers the importance of qualitiative, feminist work for policy such as urban planning.
"Uganda's Secondhand Clothing Industry"
Produced in 2017, this video by Meraal Hakem and Zaria-el Fil explores Uganda's vibrant and profitable second hand clothing industry. Through an examination of the travel of donated clothes from the United States and Europe to Uganda, the producers aim to highlight how this industry profits off of the donations of average people. It also explores how Ugandans use, modify, and repurpose used clothing to create new and innovative fashions.
"Look What the Bride Has Got On!"
Produced in 2016, this video by Annie Elledge seeks to analyze how ideas of beauty and identity are imbued onto the bodies of brides by underscoring the wedding as a site where conceptions of nationality and femininity are played out. Annie also seeks to analyze the role women play in representing and embodying the idea of “nation”by examining how Ugandan fashion designers and consumers, particularly women, actively participate in the wedding industry to highlight the ways in which these individuals contest and conform to idealized notions of Ugandan femininity.
